LSTY: The County Administrative Board of Västernorrland

The County Administrative Board of Västernorrland (LSTY) is a public administration that dates back to the 17th century. Then the primary duty was to oversee the tax collectors. The roles and duties have undergone extensive changes and taxes is now not the responsibility. Each of Sweden's counties has a County Administration that functions as the right hand of the Swedish Parliament and Central Government and has responsibility for seeing to it that their policies and decisions are implemented.

County Administrations have a wide range of expertise at their disposal, and use these skills for the benefit of their counties, ensuring that counties develop for the benefit of their inhabitants and looking after the interests of those inhabitants.

Some of the department at the County Administrative Board with responsibility in the area of the project:

  • Industry Department. Responsible for the regeneration and growth of the county’s trade and industrial sectors and for increased employment and regional balance. The work to promote growth is brought together in the county’s Regional Growth Programme (RTP).

  • Environmental Department. Environmental analysis, which is responsible for monitoring the results of environmental initiative in the region. Environmental technology, which varies out tests and supervision of environmental hazardous activities in accordance with the Environmental Code.

  • Structural Fund Secretariat. The main task is to implement the Objective 1 programme on behalf of Västernorrland within the EU´s Structural Funds for Södra Skogsläns regionen.
